Historical overview
“… The greatest pleasure in life cannot exist without salt. This substance is so necessary for human being that even spiritual pleasures cannot be expressed better than the word “salt” –
such kind of aphorism is given by penetrant mind expression. All pleasures of life, all exquisiteness and joy, freedom and beauty of being cannot find words in our language, which would characterize them better, than it is”.
It is difficult to find substance in the nature, which at the same time would be the mineral wealth and chemical raw material, and food product, and medicine. Salt is such kind of substance. There are
only two chemical elements Na and Cl in the salt formula and boundless abilities in health resumption.
Salt deposit where the caving department located is the largest in the world. Its area amounts to 200 square meters; geological age is about 230 million years. It is the clearest in the world and 98-99%
consists of NaCl and only 1-2 % consists of microelements trace elements (it is almost full Mendeleev's table).
The rock-salt deposit was discovered in 1880 by famous scientist-geologist A.P. Karpinsky, in 1881 Bryantsevskaya salt-mine, which belonged to the private company of
General M.I. Letunovsky, was put into service. Dmitriy Ivanovich Mendeleyev , the outstanding scientist, who visited Bryantsevskaya salt-mine in 1888 was amazed by salt-mines’ underground world and he
described in his work “Future power, which lies on Donets banks” its originality as follows: “In these mines people will have rest from work tiredness, possibly have treatment here, as the in the summer and winter
time under the temperature 16 OC the air is saturated with salt, it is easy to breathe, and they will make fantastic underground banquet in crystal halls with a wonderful resonance”.
His words turned out to be prophetic.
